Tamanna Bhatra

Tamanna, 24 year old, is from a family of six in the Nabrangpur district in Odisha. Diagnosed with leprosy aged 15, she was successfully cured following a 12-month course of multidrug therapy (MDT). When her younger brother was diagnosed at the age of 18, Tamanna supported him through his recovery. Despite the hurdles posed by leprosy, Tamanna's resilience shines through, and she continues to actively contribute to her family and people affected by leprosy.

Tamanna first learned about physiotherapy when she received treatment as a patient and was inspired to follow this career.  She began her journey as a Physiotherapy Care Assistant with Lepra one year ago. Her typical day involves maintaining the outpatient register, counselling, managing patient records, and facilitating MDT distribution.

Tamanna is immensely proud of her impactful contributions and transformative care. One notable success story is the case of Rahul, a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with a severe clubfoot. Witnessing Rahul's initial struggles with walking and the emotional distress it caused him and his family, Tamanna embarked on a dedicated physiotherapy treatment journey. Through a series of exercises, stretching, and gradual manipulation of Rahul's foot and ankle, Tamanna provided consistent support, overcoming his initial apprehensions and pain. The remarkable transformation observed in Rahul is testament to Tamanna's commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of people affected by leprosy.

Tamanna’s sense of pride extends further, as she actively contributes to providing daily services to 50 patients. Additionally, Tamanna has been selected for Physiotherapy Care Assistant training at the Disability Prevention and Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR) Clinic in Jagdalpur, showcasing her dedication to continuous learning and professional growth. These accomplishments reflect Tamanna's unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and making a meaningful impact in the field of physiotherapy and leprosy care.
