How do we change the world for children affected by leprosy?
Our first step is you! You have the power to help us change the world for children and families affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis. By getting your school involved with fundraising for Lepra, you can help us deliver life-changing services to some of the world's most vulnerable children.
Take a look at our school activities below. These materials are designed to make your fundraising journey easy, fun and a great success! Once you have chosen your activity and date, simply email us and we’ll be on hand to help you start your school’s fundraising campaign.
Use this free school assembly video in class or year assemblies. The video explains what leprosy is and the impact of a leprosy diagnosis. You’ll also hear from Toufik, a 13 year old boy living in Bangladesh who cares for his parents who are both affected by the disease. You can then choose which school fundraising activities you would like to do!

Maria's Island is a children’s novel written by Lepra Ambassador and best-selling author Victoria Hislop. The story follows a family impacted by leprosy, the challenges they face and how they overcome them. Our free learning resources accompany the text are designed for KS2 and KS3 students.

Move for Lepra
Set a total distance and move for Lepra! Students could move from north to south India approx. 1,997 miles. Or from your school to India approx 5,500 miles (check the exact distance on Google Maps). Students, teachers and families can all work together to virtually walk, run, skip, cycle etc to reach their goal and raise sponsorship.
Non uniform day or a Socks and Sandals Challenge
Encourage students to wear their silliest, most outrageous shoes and sock combinations for a day to raise awareness about the effects on leprosy on nerve endings and the impact it can have on your feet. Or hold a non-uniform day where students can wear clothes of their choice or come up with a fancy dress theme and get everyone involved. Everyone that takes part are asked for a donation.
Entrepreneurial Fundraising Project
If you have any budding entrepreneurs in your class, this one’s for you! Hold a bake sale, bubble tea stand, movie night or more. Let students use their creative and innovative skills whilst understanding basic business principles. It is a great opportunity for them to learn about money management, teamwork, leadership skills and engage with their school community whilst promoting a good cause and making a positive impact.
Creative Fundraising Project
Get creative and let students come up with their own sponsored activities. Whether it is doing household chores, cleaning the car, looking after pets, making dinner. Holding a tech free day or a sponsored silence etc. There are endless possibilities! Planning your fundraising project.pdf
Choose from one of these schools fundraising ideas or get in touch with us at Lepra@Lepra.org.uk to discuss any other activities that would work well for your school.

Mr David Gratton, former Head of Sixth Form at Egglescliffe School, or as we like to call him 'Super Dave', has supported Lepra for over 30 years, organising annual sponsored fancy dress workouts.
I can’t recommend fundraising for Lepra highly enough to schools and teachers elsewhere. Please get involved. It’s just something different that the staff particularly look forward to.

A student from Bassaleg School told us what they have learnt from their Lepra Fundraising experience
From this experience I have learnt more about the world around me and gain an understanding of the different problems that are happening around the world and how if we work together we can all help each other and try to fix any problems.
