Gundimeda Gopi's story

Gundimeda Gopi

Gundimeda Gopi is 50 years old and from Andhra Pradesh.

Gopi is a regular attendee of a Lepra Disability Prevention and Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR) camp which helps him manage his ongoing care and recovery. The camps are a core component of Lepra’s Neglected Tropical Disease Resource Units which are based in 9 states of India.

He was able to get reconstructive surgery (RCS) thanks to a Lepra Society referral, and has also benefitted from pre- and post-surgery follow-up visits from a Lepra outreach worker called Ramanayya.

Gopi has also accessed a Lepra Society-supported Corporate Responsibility Scheme microloan of 10,000 INR (94 GBP) seven months ago, to help him equip and grow a fledgling barber shop business helping to increase his income by 1000-2000 INR (9.50-19 GBP) per month.
