When Binod developed lymphatic filariasis, he was afraid of potential prejudice, and it was some time before he sought treatment. Extreme swelling developed in his left leg accompanied by pain and fever; leaving him unable to work and perform everyday tasks.
In July 2023, Lepra staff referred Binod to a the ASPIRE project funded by Lepra and Effect Hope. Binod attended a self-support group where he learnt self-care techniques and exercises to improve his physical health. He also received counselling to help him overcome the emotional impact of his diagnosis.
Given a self-care kit, Binod continued to practice self-care at home and his condition significantly improved. He has since been able to return to work and is now much healthier and happier.
