Hope for a New Generation

5 March 2024

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Every year, International Women's Day inspires countless people across the globe, to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness about gender discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.

Similar numbers of men and women are diagnosed with leprosy every year, however women tend to face greater social, financial and emotional impact.

An important area of Lepra's work is to amplify the voice of people and communities that are most adversely affected, and to push for social and health equality. Through working with grassroots community organisations such as the 'Bogura Federation' in Bangladesh, Lepra are proud to have worked in partnership with some awe-inspiring females, who are even now becoming role models for young people here in the UK.

People like Amber, age 9 from Essex, who shared with us some beautiful posters for International Women's Day 2024. This one was based on a picture of Taslima, a woman with extraordinary resilience, featured on a recent front cover of Lepra News:

A special thank you to Amber for sharing her amazing artwork and powerful message! With supporters like you, we WILL beat leprosy and lymphatic filariasis.
