This project will support leprosy programmes already in place in Bangladesh, while also reaching out to areas that do not yet have access to the care that is needed.
The Leprosy Transition project will help people affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis to overcome disease as well as the prejudice that goes with it. It aims to enhance access to screenings and to train staff to enable early detection of the disease. Central to our program is advocacy, communication and an ongoing monitoring of progress.
The project will ensure that the leprosy programmes already in place, in Sirajgonj, Pabna & Natore Districts, will continue to be maintained while also reaching out to areas that do not have access to the care that is needed. Most importantly, we will work with local communities to allow them to embed it in their own culture and take ownership of the project, allowing it to reach future generations. This means that any donations will have a continuing, long-term impact.
