Mangal's story

Mangal

Mangal

42 year old Mangal is a postal worker from Madhya Pradesh, India.

After experiencing loss of sensation across patches of skin and an ulcer on his right foot, Mangal visited the Alirajpur Referral Centre in June 2023.

Under the sensitive care of the centre’s team, he was diagnosed with multibacillary (MB) leprosy. Staff at the centre were able to support with an immediate plan of holistic treatment which included multidrug therapy (MDT) antibiotic treatment, ulcer care and dressing for his foot, and customised footwear with podiatry pads to enable him to walk without pain or discomfort.  Essential for maintaining his work and livelihood.

Along with vital physiotherapy, Mangal was also provided with training for self-care techniques in order to manage his foot ulcer’s healing process. An initial follow-up has shown that, thanks to the centre’s support and Mangal’s regular use of the self care techniques, the condition of his ulcer has improved by 80%.

Without the centre, Mangal would not have received this care, and would not be on the road to such a successful recovery.
