LEPRA Society announced the recipients of the Dr K.V Desikan Memorial Award 2026 at its 37th Foundation Day on 23 February in Hyderabad.
Drs Digant and Anagha Amte were honoured for transforming malaria control in Gadchiroli’s tribal communities, reducing cerebral malaria deaths to zero in 2023 and 2024 through community-led health activities.
Dr Suwash Baral was recognised for strengthening leprosy diagnosis in Nepal, cutting diagnostic delays from months to weeks and ensuring uninterrupted care even during COVID-19.
Instituted in 2023, the award celebrates outstanding leadership in infectious diseases, public health, and rehabilitation.
