At the turn of the 20th century, leprosy was a serious and rampant problem, affecting the lives of millions and creating a steep divide within already fractured countries. Lepra, then named BELRA, committed itself to leprosy control, sending specialists, doctors and many lay volunteers to these countries to assist with the disease.
While Lepra currently works in India and Bangladesh, we once worked far and wide across the world shedding light on leprosy and educating those living in endemic regions.
Our history is vast and rich, spanning from our foundation in 1924 to our present-day activities. Our museum, based on Colchester, is packed full with interesting and informative news and historical displays.
