Social Media Lead

Purpose

Raise Lepra’s profile by increasing awareness and improving engagement with supporters across a full range of social media channels, building trust with our audiences. The post holder will set professional standards and consistency in our messaging ensuring that all communication reflects the values of the charity.

Reports to

  • Communications Manager and/or the Director of Fundraising and Communications (DFC)

Main responsibilities

Lead the development of the social media strategy, translating that into the creation and scheduling of engaging content that elevates awareness of leprosy and Lepra.   The social media strategy is a key component of the marketing and communications plan, which reflects Lepra’s Joint Strategic Plan and Annual Plan.

Working closely with the Communications Lead and DFC you will:

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy in order to raise awareness of leprosy and Lepra through social media campaigns
  • Proactively research and develop new social media avenues to increase brand awareness and connect with new audiences, optimizing the supporter journey.  Create timely content, relevant to each channel.
  • Revert to Lepra’s Event and Activity Pipeline to support social media planning
  • Be on the lookout for new, exciting social media trends that Lepra can tap into
  • Work collaboratively with overseas colleagues to support the communication needs of the wider Lepra organisation
  • Analyse and report audience information and demographics, and success of existing social media campaigns on a monthly basis.

Key objectives

  • Our communications will reach an average of 1M people per month with key messages which will drive donations and support.  Specifically, our social media advertising strategies will work towards a target reach of 500,000 people per month
  • Keep up to date with law or changes affecting communication practice, ensuring compliance and legality for all communications (DMA, ASA etc.), raising concerns or making recommendations to the Director of Fundraising and Communications as appropriate
  • Ensure income is raised in an ethical way and from ethical sources
  • Maximise the social capital available to Lepra

Key tasks

  • Manage social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and You Tube
  • To gain knowledge of, and keep up-to-date with, Lepra’s work overseas and in the International Development arena to support good communications across all mediums
  • Create dynamic brand artwork using Canva
  • Keep abreast of new social media platforms and ensure our presence where relevant
  • Propose and create content that promotes audience interaction, increases audience presence on the Lepra websites, and encourages audience participation.  Practical examples will include but are not limited to:
    • Digital content creation (e.g., recording and editing for audio and visual)
    • Producing shareable content for our range of digital channels (including event videos, interviews) - covering recording, editing, audio content and sound design
    • Support the delivery of high quality and effective digital events
  • Use the event and activity pipeline to drive and schedule content in order to create a consistent stream of news designed to increase audience interaction.
  • Analyse, manage, and amend schedules where necessary to optimise visits
  • Develop the use of Advantage (CRM) ensuring Lepra’s policies and practices are adhered to including data protection. To record all relevant information promptly.

Salary: £25,080

Hours: 35 hours per week (part-time considered)

Location: Flexible with regular travel to Colchester offices
