Careers at Lepra

Director of Programmes and Advocacy

Leprosy affects millions of people, many of whom face significant prejudice and discrimination. Over 3 million people across the world live with undiagnosed leprosy, even though early treatment can prevent permanent disability. Since Lepra was formed almost 100 years ago, we have reached millions of people through health treatment, education and awareness raising of leprosy and other neglected diseases. We were the first to trial drug treatments for leprosy, and, by seeking out those who would not otherwise be diagnosed, we are able to prevent long-term disability in those suffering with the condition. Today Lepra works in India and Bangladesh, providing treatment, support, training and strengthening health systems. We are an evidence-led and secular organisation, working to deliver real change to people's lives and to give them a voice. Our teams have pioneered many successful programmes and capacity building systems, leading to systemic change.

Lepra are now recruiting for a Director of Programmes and Advocacy to provide strategic leadership and direction for the overall development, delivery, impact and learning of Lepra's international programmes and advocacy. The Director will do this through developing and delivering strategies for increased programme impact and by contributing to the governance and executive leadership of the organisation as a member of the UK and Global SMTs.

Responsibilities will include contributing to the delivery of the Joint Strategic Plan, providing support to the UK, Bangladesh and India programme teams and ensuring programme funds are utilised in the most effective way. In addition you will identify trends, ensure impact measurement for all programmes and represent Lepra in international and national networks and events to raise the profile of the organisation and deliver on advocacy priorities and strategies.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a programme delivery or development role. This will include experience of inspiring, managing and coaching a team with a solid understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning practises. You will have experience of budget management and will also be an excellent relationship builder, with the ability to engage across multiple stakeholder groups. Experience or interest within the field of International Development would be beneficial, but we are also open to considering candidates from other backgrounds. Lepra are not only interested to hear from you if you are an experienced senior level candidate - we are also keen to consider you if you are looking to step into your first Director level role.
