Longstanding corporate supporter, Haddenham Healthcare is actively helping people affected by lymphatic filariasis (LF) by providing specialist compression garments.

LF is the second major cause of long-term disability, with over 120 million people affected across the world today. It is a parasitic disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquito bites. It causes swelling of body parts leading to severe deformities and debilitating fevers.

Haddenham Healthcare is a company specialising in the treatment of lymphoedema, chronic oedema and wound care. Upon hearing physiotherapist, Rajni Kant Singh speak at a lymphoedema conference, Haddenham Healthcare was inspired to donate unused compression garments to be used directly in the field, first in Bihar and now in Odisha.

Compression garments, such as leg stockings, are an important way of controlling swelling (lymphoedema) caused by LF. They put pressure on tissues to stop fluid build-up and encourage fluid to drain. Thanks to the continued support provided by Haddenham Healthcare, Lepra is able to improve the lives of those who are most affected by LF.

They have helped people like 14 year old Sita in India whose right leg began to swell when she was 12. Despite treatment she continued to suffer swelling and fevers. Sita learnt techniques to help prevent further infections from Lepra and her Haddenham Healthcare leg compression garment will also help to reduce further swelling. Now the pain and fevers have gone she is optimistic about her future.

Tim Gabb, General Manager of Haddenham Healthcare says:

“We were so pleased to hear the stories of how our compression garments are making a positive difference to people’s lives and we are happy to continue to invest our time to provide what people affected by LF need.

"One of our stated aims in our Company Ethos is to make a positive contribution to society and ourpartnership with Lepra through both the giving of free compression garments and direct financial support is an important step in helping us to achieve this aim.”
